I’ve also found this trick w/ syndaemon good for temporarily disabling the touchpad clicks while typing: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad#Disabling%20the%20Touchpad%20Temporarily%20While%20Typing though it seems a little unstable on 9.04 beta.

You saved me a heap of trouble since I have been fighting the inadvertent cut/paste problem since I purchased the Dell mini 9. Thanks for the help.

In return, I found a site that succinctly describes how you can switch the quote-apostrophe key with the semi-colon key. I have found this to be be very helpful as well since I use the apostrophe key much more than the semi-colon and cannot contort my fingers to find it in its current location. This tweak can be found at http://www.squidoo.com/dellmini.

Between these two tweaks, I have found the keyboard to be much more useful and hope you like it as well.

Even if I do end up going back to Apple as my primary carry-around laptop, I think I’m going to keep this little guy as a spare computer — heck, hook it up to an external monitor and USB mouse/keyboard and you’ve got a perfectly good lightweight linux desktop.

External VGA seems to top out at 1024×768 at least in my initial testing, though.

Hmm, our PowerBook just went on the blink this weekend. (Runs for ~30-60 minutes, then stops responding. I think something’s overheating.) If it comes down to replacing it, this might be worth a look.

BasKet installs nice and easy on Ubuntu via apt-get or Synaptic… Unfortunately my first impression is what I frequently get from KDE — too much bling!

It has a lot of options and super-hyper-mega-flexibility, where notes can have multiple columns and little floating bits and….. stuff. But I can’t quite _find_ things in it, and the interface updates very slowly on the not-very-accelerated video.

The battery applet claims 4 hours something, but I haven’t formally attempted to run it all the way down yet.

It seems to eat more power in sleep mode than the Apple laptops do, as well, but if you make a habit of charging overnight that won’t make much difference.

You got me thinking and I stumbled upon BasKet notepads, which seems to be doing what Yojimbo is doing. I have just tried it and so far, I find it pretty good. Caveats: it is a KDE application, and I have yet to find out about synchronizing. It’s here: http://basket.kde.org/index.php
